Church AND State?
Maybe this is the proper “church and state” relationship?

A closer look at what we are talking about:
This is a stained glass window at my parent’s and brother’s church in Iowa. Obviously the state is an important part of the church. What happened to that relationship? It has been there in the past, now both sides are drifting away from it. Neither side can truly exist without the other.

I get the vibe that the religious side is drifting away from it in order to protect itself as its own institution, and the state side is getting away from it to divest itself of moral (ergo, law abiding) obligations.
